HTSB STANDARD #5 - APPLICATION OF CONTENT
The teacher understands how to connect concepts and use differing perspectives to engage learners in critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative problem solving related to authentic local and global issues.
Students learn about the creative process, starting with the design phase, developing an idea or concept and their own visual language with which to convey their ideas, and then applying techniques we learn when hand modeling clay and are encouraged to practice and use trial and error to gradually improve their skills until they can successfully attain a level of mastery. Students are encouraged to consider the larger context of their work, whether it be how their work fits into the local community, or the wider global community through our Instagram account. We also look at themes in art, and students are encouraged to develop personally meaningful work that their audience can connect to.
